ACTIVITIIES IN THE LOCAL AREA.

Golf.
Seanocnoc
is the ideal base for a golfing holiday, as it is central to several world
class golf courses. The house overlooks the spectacular Ring of Kerry Golf
course, and there are two 18-hole courses in Kenmare (Kenmare and the Park
Hotel). The famous courses at Parknasilla, Waterville, Ballybunion and
Killarney are all a short drive away.
For the
younger / less experienced, there is a 9 hole pitch and putt course (par 3) at
Faungorth activity centre (just outside Kenmare on the Kilgravan road), which
also has a driving range, tennis courts and archery.
Fishing.
Trout /
Salmon. Trout and Char fishing is free
in the Killarney lakes. Barfinnihy lake is stocked with larger Rainbow and
Brown Trout, and is available by day ticket, purchased from O’Hares tackle
shop. The Long Lake (on the Sneem Road) operated on the same principles as
Barfinnihy lake.
There is
fine Salmon fishing available in the area, with the Rivers Blackwater and Sheen
being the most popular. Permits are available from O’Hare’s tackle shop in
Kenmare. A State (rod) licence is required for Salmon fishing (7 Day or 1 day
licences available).
Sea
Fishing. There is an abundance of species to target for Sea Fishing, notably
Mackerel, Pollock, Cod, Conger, Skate, Ray, Ling, Blue Shark(by boat), Gurnard,
Whiting, Bass and flatfish. Local rock fishing spots are : To the left and
right of Blackwater Pier, under the suspension bridge in Kenmare (bass) and
Gleesk Pier (just beyond Sneem). Couloo Rock on Valentia Island is also a
famous “Hotspot”. Please note that care should be taken while rock fishing, and
it is advised not to go alone due to sudden swells that can occur.
Boat
fishing is plentiful, and well advertised. Ask in O’Hares tackle shop. Larger
fish are taken on boats, with more variation of species. Blue Shark may be
taken further out in the bay at the right time of year.
Dromquinna
stables on the way into Kenmare, and also
a riding stable at the end of the road. Dromquinna offers horse riding along
the beach.
Beaches.
Coss
Strand is walking distance. Seals can often be spotted from here.
There
are many other beaches within a short driving distance, such as White Strand,
Derrynane beach, Caseys Cove and Carrolls Cove (these are all white sand
beaches), with Inch Strand and the
Dingle Peninsula a little further afield.
Everywhere!
Kenmare holds several Walking Festivals throughout the year. The “Kerry Way” is
a fully signed Walking route.
Killmakillogue
Harbour.
The
nearest pub is Pat Spillane’s bar (walking distance), and the Blackwater Tavern
also sells petrol and basic groceries.
Kenmare
is full of pubs, music can be found most nights.
Kenmare
is a gastronomic delight, with a huge number of excellent quality restaurants,
with styles, tastes and prices to suit everybody. Local Seafood is a speciality.
